Somerville Community Access Television
Somerville, MA
In this project, the Union Square Fire Station was
converted into a public access cable TV studio and offices. An
entirely new cable TV studio was fitted into the first floor of the
building. The design included new oak window infills, an acoustically
isolated TV studio, control room and edit suite, and offices and
support space for Somerville Community Access TV. The design also
included the provision of new access stairs to the second
floor of the building to ready the space for future use. Central
to the projects success was the maintenance of the character and appearance
of the old building, which serves as a landmark in the newly revitalized
Union Square. DiMarinisi & Wolfe's design was done so that the
new work fit into the old structure and the new oak facade
infill complemented the new plaza built in front of the building.
DiMarinisi & Wolfe provided full architectural
services and acted as design liaison between the City of
Somerville's Community Access TV Corporation and Warner
Cable, which provided project funding and is a project tenant. |
