Mt.
Hope Cemetery
Vehicle Maintenance & Storage Facility
Boston, MA
The project challenge was to design a utilitarian
building within one of Boston's major cemeteries in a way so as not
to overpower or detract from the adjacent grave sites. To accomplish
those goals the building was designed with a hip roof to visually
minimize the mass of the building. The building and adjacent earth berm
are used to visually block and/or break-up the trucking activities,
which are all located behind the building out of view from the grave
sites.
In addition to the aesthetic goals, the objective
of the design was to create a highly efficient, functional,
durable, cost effective building. To accomplish this, staff and
mechanical support areas were placed between the vehicle storage
and maintenance bays to minimize movement of staff and support
services. |
