Hyde
Park Police Station Renovations
Boston, MA
The Hyde Park Police Station project required the
renovation of an existing building into a modern full-service
police facility. Because of the interior reorganization of the
facility and the need to meet handicap accessibility requirements,
there was an opportunity to provide a new entry and street-front presence
for the building.
DiMarinisi & Wolfe's design solution was to
build a new canopy and porch at the center of the building's
facade; the porch is flanked by a new handicap ramp and splayed
entry stair, which each out to the sidewalk to bring the public
into the building. the canopy and railing system are made of
sand-blasted stainless steel and crimson color galvanized steel and
the new entry is decorated with polished pink granite panels. The
new decorative materials enliven the original building design
without upstaging it - the gabled canopy in an abstracted version of the building
's pediments and the crimson and pink colors of the new materials
complement the existing brickwork. |
